In the beginning area of operation of the bank was entire Tanjore district. But the rapid growth in the number of societies it was felt that one central bank could hardly meet the financial requirements of nearly 200 societies that had been established through out the district. So another central bank was registered with head quarters at tanjore in the year 1920 and four out of 11 taluks of the district were transferred to the new bank for its area of operations.
In the year 1930 the Registrar suggested the desirability of removing the words ‘Tanjore Districts’ from the name of the bank as the bank was having for its area of operations only a part of the district.
The name of the bank was accordingly changed as “Co-operative Central Bank,Limited,Kumbakonam” at the General meeting held on 31.08.1930.
in 1991, Nagapattinam District was newly created from Tanjore distict. The present Thiruvarur district and Mayiladuthurai district was formed respectively in 1997 and 2020 by bifurcating the Nagapattinam District
